I stand in solidarity with cultural workers at Tate striking this week, and with those facing redundancy at Southbank. PCS have argued that these redundancies are unnecessary – they are also extremely damaging to the wider cultural sector – for those employed facing job losses, and those other organisations who work with Tate – suppliers, publishers and others.

It is grotesque that these cuts will disproportionately affect the lowest paid, and Black and minority ethnic workers, and I’d urge the management of Tate to respond positively to the union’s requests.

All arts organisations are facing a tough future – but it is completely unacceptable that two of the largest public institutions are further exacerbating this crisis by imposing redundancies in the midst of a pandemic.
